Who I am

I'm a dedicated software engineer currently working at Built With Science, a start-up in Richmond, BC, Canada. In my role, I've had the privilege of directly experiencing the intersection of technology and business—insights I eagerly share with you in this publication.

Before my current position, I honed my engineering skills at Amazon, where I worked extensively on projects centered around the Chromium-based browser. This period taught me valuable lessons in browser software, Android development, and device software engineering in general. At Built With Science, my role has expanded to encompass full-stack development. Leading a lean engineering team, I authored our product from scratch, giving me profound insights into successful and challenging engineering decisions.

In pursuit of a broader understanding of the business world, I took a brief career hiatus to earn an MBA from the University of British Columbia. My studies were deeply rooted in entrepreneurship, including finance, venture capital, and product management, complemented by foundational concepts such as accounting and economics, which continue to prove invaluable.

Adding another layer to my professional journey, I'm a co-owner of a few restaurants in the Greater Vancouver Area. While ownership might sound glamorous, the reality, particularly post-pandemic, involves significant challenges. This venture has offered me invaluable insights into people management and the dynamics of working with co-founders from diverse backgrounds.

What inspired this publication

The driving force behind Code & Capital is my belief that effective communication is often the most challenging aspect of collaboration. Throughout my career, I've experienced the comfort of focusing solely on engineering, a common scenario for many software professionals in corporate environments. However, I quickly realized that speaking exclusively in the language of engineering can be a significant barrier, particularly in business school and within entrepreneurial ventures.

This publication represents a personal journey toward mastering the art of communication across disciplines. While I don't claim to be an expert in either software engineering or business strategy, I aim to bridge the gap I've experienced firsthand. Code & Capital is the resource I wish I'd had during my formative years as a software engineer—an intersection of insights to help tech professionals appreciate business perspectives and vice versa.

My hope is that this platform will not only serve as a valuable tool for engineers eager to broaden their understanding but also provide business strategists with deeper insights into the minds of the engineers they collaborate with daily.
